7 Self-Discovery Quizzes to Understand Yourself Better

Most people spend far more time managing the effects of their patterns than actually seeing the patterns themselves. These seven short reflections exist to close that gap — not as psychometric tests or medical assessments, but as mirrors: a place to pause, notice, and listen inward before deciding what, if anything, you want to work on next.

Each one takes a few minutes, and each one links to a deeper article on this blog once you have your result. Here's what each quiz actually looks at.

1. Attachment Style

How you learned, early and wordlessly, to answer the question "is it safe to need someone?" Based on the attachment research of Bowlby, Ainsworth, and the four-style model developed by Bartholomew and Horowitz, this quiz shows you which of the four patterns — Secure, Anxious, Avoidant, or Fearful-Avoidant — is quietly running your relationships.

2. Core Wounds

The early hurt that, left unseen, tends to shape how you work, love, and hold yourself back. Based on Lise Bourbeau's model of five wounds — rejection, abandonment, humiliation, betrayal, and injustice — this quiz asks what you actually do under pressure, not who you think you are, to surface your primary wound and the mask built around it.

3. Nervous System

Underneath every thought, your body is always answering one question: am I safe? This reflection, built on Dan Siegel's window-of-tolerance model and the broader trauma-informed literature (Pat Ogden, Bessel van der Kolk, Stephen Porges), shows you how wide your own window currently is, and which way you tend to tip when life pushes you past it.

4. Inner Parts (IFS)

You are not just one voice. Built on Richard Schwartz's Internal Family Systems model, this quiz makes visible which protective "parts" of you tend to take the lead under stress, and how much access you currently have to the calmer, steadier Self underneath them.

5. Archetypes

Some part of you already knows the role you keep playing. Based on Carol Pearson's twelve archetypes — a framework used in depth psychology and storytelling alike — this quiz reveals both the archetype whose energy you're currently living, and the one quietly asking to come forward next.

6. Shadow

What we can't stand in others is often something we've disowned in ourselves; what we quietly admire is sometimes a gift we haven't claimed. Built on Carl Jung's shadow work, this gentle reflection points you toward the areas where your reactions run hottest, and what they might be trying to show you.

7. Love Language

Two people can both be trying hard and still feel unloved, simply because they're speaking different languages. Based on Dr. Gary Chapman's five love languages, this quiz shows you which one or two languages actually reach you, and where the gap sits between how you give love and how you receive it.

Where to Start

If you only take one, start with whichever question is loudest for you right now — relationships (Attachment Style or Love Language), an old pattern you can't quite shake (Core Wounds), a season of stress (Nervous System), or a general sense of "who am I becoming" (Archetypes or Shadow). None of these are meant to be the final word on who you are — they're a starting point for a longer look inward.
