Overview

Ibogaine Therapy is a powerful, plant-based approach recognized for its potential to facilitate deep psychological and emotional transformation. At Holistika Center, we structure this restorative process around three essential phases—Preparation, Journey, and Integration—to ensure a safe, supportive, and enduring healing experience.

The Therapeutic Promise of Ibogaine

Ibogaine is highly regarded for its efficacy in addressing a range of complex mental and emotional health challenges.

  • Mental & Emotional Well-being: It offers profound benefits for individuals dealing with conditions such as PTSD, treatment-resistant depression, and chronic anxiety. By accessing deep, root-level causes, Ibogaine can facilitate emotional clarity and reset destructive mental patterns.

  • A Foundation for Recovery: For those navigating the path of addiction recovery, Ibogaine provides exceptional value. It is uniquely capable of disrupting the physical aspects of dependency, reducing withdrawal symptoms, and, most critically, offering an enduring, essential foundation for long-term sobriety. This experience empowers individuals to step away from past patterns and proceed confidently into a healthy, sober future.

Our Three-Pillar Approach

We guide our guests through a comprehensive continuum of care designed for optimal safety and lasting change:

  1. Preparation: Before the Ibogaine experience, this phase focuses on thorough medical screening, psychological readiness, and personalized intention setting. We ensure you are physically and mentally prepared to receive the medicine, maximizing safety and therapeutic potential.

  2. Journey: The core Ibogaine session is a deep, introspective experience. It is often described as a vivid, life-review process that offers unique insights into behavioral patterns, past traumas, and life direction. This profound inner experience lays the groundwork for transformative change.

  3. Integration: Following the Journey, the period of Integration is critical for grounding the insights gained. Individuals often report a heightened state of introspection and reduced need for sleep for several days, extending into weeks. During this time, our structured support (which includes coaching, therapy, and mindfulness practices) is key to applying these profound learnings to enhance daily life and build sustainable, positive habits.

Preparation - Journey - Integration.

Day 1: Arrival & Deep Preparation

Your journey begins by settling into our serene sanctuary environment. This day is focused on bringing your mind and body into a state of deep relaxation and readiness for the following day's profound experience.

  • Acclimatization: Settle in and become comfortable with your healing environment.

  • Brain Entrainment: Begin your internal journey with the PandoraStar brain entrainment device. This system uses targeted light frequencies to induce a deep trance state, calming the nervous system.

  • Somatic Relaxation: Enhance your preparation with the Bioharmonic Technologies Vibe Bed, which uses gentle, harmonious vibrations to facilitate deep physical and mental release.

  • Hydro-Therapy: Conclude the day with rejuvenating contrast therapy, enjoying the sauna and cold plunge at 5:00 PM to stimulate circulation and promote detoxification.

Day 2: Medical Clearance & The Therapeutic Journey

This is the day of the core Ibogaine experience, preceded by essential safety checks.

  • Morning Medical Checks (8:00 AM): Safety is our highest priority. The day begins with a blood and urine test to ensure optimal liver function and an electrocardiogram (EKG) reading to confirm safe precondition for the therapy.

  • The Ibogaine Session (Scheduled Start: 3:00 PM): Once medically cleared, the therapeutic journey begins. The experience consists of three primary, interconnected phases:

    1. The Acute Phase (Visual & Introspective): Starting 1–3 hours post-dosage, this phase typically lasts 4–8 hours. Clients often describe an "awakened dream state" where significant past events, personal history, or deep, symbolic visions are experienced, providing crucial insights.

    2. The Reflective Phase (Evaluative & Contemplative): Beginning 4–8 hours post-dosage and lasting up to 20 hours, this period is focused on deep reflection and evaluation of the acute phase's insights. Participants are highly introspective and may be sensitive to external stimuli during this time.

Day 3: Residual Stimulation & Physical Recovery

This day marks the gradual return to normal physical functioning while the mind continues to process the experience.

  • The Residual Stimulation Phase ("The Gray Day"): Starting 12–24 hours post-dosage and lasting 24–72 hours, this is when the intense psychoactive experience fades and the body begins its motoric recovery.

  • Restorative Floatation: We assist your physical recovery and continued integration with a floatation session, which provides sensory deprivation to calm the nervous system and promote deep, restorative healing.

Day 4: Integration (Making Meaning)

The focus shifts entirely to anchoring the profound insights gained during the Journey into actionable, daily life changes.

  • Integration Session: You will meet with your dedicated guide for a comprehensive follow-up session. The central focus is the key question: "How do you bring these powerful insights into your life now?"

  • Action Planning: This session involves collaboratively identifying concrete changes in perspective, behavior, or habits necessary to build a sustainable, healthy future.

Day 5: Tranquility & Departure

  • Morning of Peace: Enjoy a final, tranquil morning to absorb the inner peace and profound insights you have gained throughout your time at Holistika Center.

  • Checkout: Conclude your stay with a fresh perspective before checking out at 11:00 AM.

Pre-Program Evaluation & Orientation

Before you arrive at Holistika Center, a thorough and compassionate onboarding process is conducted to ensure your safety, readiness, and success with Ibogaine Therapy.

We call this the Prep, Orientation, and Risk Evaluation phase.

1. Comprehensive Risk Evaluation (Pre-Screening)

Safety is our utmost priority. This critical step determines your eligibility and ensures that the Ibogaine treatment can be administered responsibly.

  • Detailed Health Review: You will complete a comprehensive health questionnaire covering your medical history, current medications, and any past or current substance use.

  • Medical Clearances Required: We require recent, verifiable documentation from your physician:

    • Blood Panel: Essential to check for optimal liver function, kidney function, and electrolyte balance.

    • Electrocardiogram (EKG): Required to assess cardiac health and rule out any pre-existing conditions that may contraindicate Ibogaine.

  • Clinical Team Review: Our medical and clinical staff meticulously review all submitted data. Final acceptance is contingent upon this rigorous evaluation, ensuring you meet the safe preconditions for therapy.

  • Note: If medical results indicate that treatment cannot be safely administered, the client will be refunded 75% of the program cost (as per our policy).

2. Psychological Preparation & Orientation

Once medically cleared, this stage focuses on your mental and emotional preparedness and understanding of the journey ahead.

  • Intake Session & Goal Setting: You will meet virtually with your dedicated guide or therapist. This session is crucial for discussing your history, expectations, and for setting clear, personalized intentions for your Ibogaine journey.

  • Process Orientation: You will receive a detailed briefing on what to expect. This includes:

    • The Therapeutic Arc: A full explanation of the three phases of the Ibogaine experience (Acute, Reflective, and Residual Stimulation).

    • Safety Protocols: A review of all safety procedures and the immediate care structure provided by the Holistika team during the journey.

    • Logistics & Comfort: An overview of what to pack, travel arrangements, and what the sanctuary environment (Day 1) will entail, ensuring you arrive feeling informed and calm.

This comprehensive Pre-Program Evaluation & Orientation is designed to mitigate risks and maximize the therapeutic potential, allowing you to begin your healing journey from a foundation of safety and clarity.

Learn more about Iboga & Ibogaine.

Overview: What is Ibogaine?

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive alkaloid found in the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub and other plants in the Apocynaceae family (such as Voacanga africana).

  • Origins: The Iboga plant is native to West Africa, where it has been used for centuries in the medicinal and ritualistic traditions of the Bwiti religion in Gabon.

  • Western History: French and Belgian explorers first observed these ceremonies in the 19th century. In the mid-20th century, it was sold in France as a stimulant called Lambarène. In 1962, Howard Lotsof, a heroin user, accidentally discovered its anti-addictive properties, launching its reputation as a tool for addiction interruption.

  • Legal Status: Ibogaine is a Schedule I drug (illegal) in the United States. However, it is unregulated or available by prescription in countries such as Canada, Mexico, South Africa, New Zealand, and parts of Europe.

Iboga vs. Ibogaine

While often discussed together, there are distinct differences between the whole plant and the isolated chemical.

  • Ibogaine: An isolated chemical extracted from the plant. It is primarily used medically to treat addiction to opiates and other substances.

  • Iboga (Root Bark): Contains ibogaine plus 11 other alkaloids (such as tabernanthine). These additional compounds create a more intense, "full-spectrum" hallucinogenic experience. It is often preferred for spiritual development rather than strictly for medical detox.

    • Duration: An iboga journey can last up to 72 hours, significantly longer than isolated ibogaine.

    • Physical Effects: Consuming the bark (5–100 grams) is physically demanding and frequently causes nausea, vomiting, and loss of muscle control. In traditional contexts, this purging is considered essential to the healing process.

How It Works (Pharmacology)

Ibogaine affects multiple neurotransmitter systems in the brain. It has a high affinity for sigma-2 receptors and moderate interactions with opioid and serotonin receptors. The body metabolizes it into noribogaine, which increases serotonin availability.

Safety and Drug Interactions

Warning: Ibogaine is metabolically processed by the cytochrome P4502D6 enzyme. Because this enzyme also processes many other medications, mixing ibogaine with other substances can be lethal.

Dangerous Interactions Include:

  • Heart Medications: Anti-arrhythmics.

  • Psychiatric Meds: Anti-depressants (SSRIs/MAOIs) and anti-psychotics.

  • Foods: Grapefruit juice and bergamot oil (containing bergamottin).

  • Other: Antihistamines, HIV treatments, anti-fungals, and certain gastric drugs (e.g., Omeprazole).

Therapeutic Uses and Benefits

1. Addiction Treatment

Ibogaine is not a "cure," but is widely regarded as an addiction "interrupter."

  • Efficacy: It effectively mitigates withdrawal symptoms from opiates, cocaine, amphetamines, and alcohol.

  • Outcomes: Some users experience a total elimination of withdrawals after one session; others find that cravings return later but at a manageable intensity.

  • Statistics:

    • Johns Hopkins Study (Observational): Out of 88 subjects, 80% reported drastic reduction or elimination of withdrawal symptoms. 30% remained abstinent from opioids for years following treatment.

    • Brazil Study: When combined with psychotherapy, 60% of participants showed long-term reduction in symptoms.

    • MAPS Studies (Mexico & New Zealand): Long-term reduction of withdrawal symptoms ranged between 20% and 50%.

2. Personal and Spiritual Growth

Often used in "psycho-spiritual" contexts, ibogaine can induce an "egoless state."

  • Mental Health: Users report insights that help resolve depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma.

  • Perspective: The experience often triggers repressed memories and forces a confrontation with personal "demons," leading to a sense of peace and interconnectedness during the "afterglow" period.

Risks and Mortality

Ibogaine is medically volatile. While toxicity is rare in healthy individuals, it can be fatal for those with pre-existing conditions.

  • Cardiac Risk: The primary cause of ibogaine-related death is cardiac arrest caused by pre-existing heart conditions or drug interactions. Individuals with heart conditions should never take ibogaine.

  • Mortality Rate: It is estimated that 1 in 400 people who take ibogaine suffer a fatal reaction. This makes it statistically riskier than many extreme sports.

  • Historical Data: A review of medical records (1990–2008) identified 19 deaths closely following ibogaine use. These were attributed to interactions with other drugs or prior medical issues, rather than the toxicity of ibogaine itself.

Research and Development

Due to its Schedule I status, clinical research in the US has been limited since NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) pulled funding in 1995.

  • Past Trials: In the early 1990s, NIDA ran animal trials, followed by human trials treating heroin addicts. While 25 out of 33 subjects showed resolved withdrawal symptoms, the death of a 24-year-old female patient halted the study.

  • Current Innovation: Pharmaceutical companies are currently developing synthetic variants (like 18-MC) that mimic ibogaine’s anti-addictive properties without the hallucinogenic effects or heart risks. These are currently in FDA-approved trials.
