Planning an Ayahuasca retreat is not only about choosing the right center but also about preparing yourself physically, mentally, and practically. Knowing what to wear and what to bring ensures that your experience is safe, comfortable, and fully focused on healing.
In this post, I will share my personal advice from the retreats I have joined or facilitated—authentic experiences gathered over years of hosting retreats and welcoming participants from all over the world to our Inner Evolution Retreat.

What to Wear to an Ayahuasca Ceremony
Ayahuasca ceremonies usually take place at night in dim light. For this reason, light-colored clothing—preferably white—is recommended. White makes it easier for shamans, guardians, and fellow participants to see you throughout the night.
Loose and breathable layers: Choose natural fabrics that allow you to relax. An oversized sweater, cozy socks, and slip-on shoes are ideal for moving between indoors and outdoors.
Warm clothing: Even in the jungle, nights can get cool. Bring extra layers for comfort.
For Amazon retreats: Lightweight T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, breathable pants (avoid shorts to protect from mosquito bites), and a poncho or rain jacket are essential.
It is recommended to bring a light jacket that you can put on and take off quickly, depending on your fluctuating temperature during the ceremony.
What to Pack for an Ayahuasca Retreat
Here’s a list of essentials to make your retreat more comfortable and supportive of your inner journey:
Reusable water bottle: Choose one that’s easy to hold and sip from, even when lying down. Staying hydrated is essential.
Notebook, pen, and colors: Journaling or sketching helps capture insights, emotions, and visions.
Natural toiletries: Fragrance-free, eco-friendly products are best. Strong scents may feel overwhelming during ceremonies.
Personal altar object: A crystal, or small totem can hold your intention and support your integration afterward.
Lip balm: To ease dryness and dehydration.
Avoid wearing perfumes during the cermeony, that will bother people around you.
Eventually, you might would like to bring:
Offerings: Books, crystals, or handwritten notes make meaningful gifts to facilitators or fellow participants. These small gestures often create lasting connections.
Grounding tools: Meditation beads, crystals, or natural oils help you return to the present if the journey feels intense.
Rapé (optional): If you already work with this medicine, bringing your own blend may complement your Ayahuasca experience.
Ear plugs: Helpful if you’re sharing sleeping spaces.
Earphones and medicine music, if you would like to extend your process after the ceremony is over.
If your reterat is in the jungle:
Headlamp: Keeps your hands free while moving around at night.
Insect repellent (natural): Especially important for outdoor retreats in the Amazon.
Light pants and long-sleeved T-shirts to avoid insect bites.
Light snacks for after ceremony (if permitted): Simple, non-processed snacks like nuts or fruit can help ground you after a long night.

Check With the Organizers
Most retreat centers provide basics like buckets, blankets, pillows, drinking water, mats, and towels. Always confirm in advance so you don’t overpack or miss something essential.
Final Word
Preparing for an Ayahuasca retreat is about creating the right container for transformation. By choosing comfortable clothes and bringing thoughtful items, you set yourself up for a smoother, more focused experience. Pack lightly but intentionally—everything you carry should support your healing journey, not distract from it.
✨ Above all, come with an open heart and a clear intention. The medicine will meet you where you are.
